Nathan's Wooden Knife Kit came about when Nathan asked me to help him design a knife that he would be allowed to use since he was not yet old enough to use a real knife. That day, I helped him to make his first folding knife out of soft wood. We enjoyed the time together and he was glad to have his very own knife, one that he was allowed to carry.
With a wooden (not sharp) blade, he is able to show that he is learning responsibility by treating as if it is a real knife. In the end, he has learned about the proper care and use of knives, but just as rewarding, has been the time that we spent together making his knife. Now you can have that same experience with your child.
In 2013 we introduced the newest knife kit which is just as easily to assembly, but it comes in multiple colors and something that reminds you of the old model airplane kits you might have made as a kid. All the pieces are molded together in one tray of parts right here in the Pacific Northwest. They are easy to assembly; just break apart the pieces, trim off the burrs and put the kit together. Not only does it make a great tool for teaching about knife safety, it doubles as a handy letter opener as well. Shipping in March 2013.
If you make one and send us a picture of your child with their knife, we would love to add them to our Hall of Fame
and send them a free gift.
Our new colored knife kits are great and assembly just like the wooden kit that Nathan is assembling here.
Nathan shows in this video how easy it is for any kid to put together his wooden knife kit. As many kids have already found out, it is fun to just take apart and reassemble over and over again.
Once you've assembled yours, send us your picture and we'll send you a special treat for joining the Hall of Fame.
Here are some of the brave kids who have taken on the challenge of making one of our Knife Kits. Send your name and picture to kleckerknives@gmail.com if you have made one and we'll add you to the wall. or click here to order your own Kit and we'll send it right out to you.
